about me.
Thanks for taking the time to visit Marry Me Melbourne, my name is Cassie Duncan.
I have been a Celebrant for seven years and was inspired to explore this path after my husband and I had a disappointing experience at our own wedding. It left me feeling really let down and like I could’ve done a better job myself. I must’ve been banging on about this to anyone who’d listen because when two of my dear friends, Lucy and Andrew, began planning their wedding they asked me to officiate. This forced me to really consider if it was a path I would like to take. The answer was a resounding “YES” and so I spent the next eight months completing studies to become a celebrant. The experience of playing such an intimate role in someone’s wedding was nerve-wracking and terrifying, yet so so rewarding. From that point on I was hooked. I love that being a celebrant is not my main 'bread and butter' because it has remained a joy and a bit of fun on the side. By day I passionately run an environmental not-for-profit, Sustainable Table, and by night I love to cook for friends and listen to folk music whilst dreaming of living in Italy or travelling around Australia in a camper-van with my husband and two children, Luca and Dusty. When it comes to being a celebrant, I think it is learning about each couple that I love most - the intricacies of each relationship, that to the couple may seem ordinary or mundane, but to an outsider makes it unique and something to celebrate. |
I believe it is my ability to capture what makes every couple 'tick', with authenticity and humour, that is my true gift.
I don’t deal in clichés about love, instead I get to know you by asking a series of questions that you answer in your own time. It is the story of the two of you that I share, not just the soppy love stuff but also the ups and downs that have made you stronger and more secure in your love. I don’t have a template, no two weddings are ever the same. Some people have been guests at six or seven weddings and they ask how I manage to make each wedding so unique. This is the biggest compliment anyone could ever pay me. My absolute career highlight to date has been seeing marriage equality become legalised here in Australia. Prior to this I felt a little bit ashamed of my hobby, because I was being asked to uphold a set of laws I didn't believe in. Today I rejoice in the fact that two people who love each other can ask me to marry them. It's as simple and as beautiful as that. #lovewins Ok, that's it from me. I'd appreciate the opportunity to meet up with you both for a coffee, tea or a wine to discuss your big day in more detail. Thank you and have a great day. Cassie x |
